During October, the sugar market saw significant arrivals of sugar vessels and lifting activity under TCP tenders. The Florencia shipment, carrying 35,000 MT, and the Star Gate, carrying 26,000 MT, arrived following an earlier Infinity vessel, which also carried 26,000 MT under a TCP tender.
- Infinity began discharging on 9th October and completed on 22nd October.
- Florencia berthed on 10th October and completed discharging on 29th October.
- Star Gate, which started unloading around the same period, still had 13,000 MT remaining as of 31st October.
In total, more than 74,000 MT of sugar has been lifted in October through TCP approved imports. Both Star Gate and Florencia sugar were being traded in the domestic market at PKR 165–175 per kilogram.
Despite the arrival of imported sugar, the market continues to trade above the notified rate, and local granulated sugar remains unavailable to consumers at the government-set price. Currently, granulated sugar is being sold at PKR 200–210 per kilogram in the market. Retailers are purchasing 50 kg bags at PKR 9,400, while consumers are urging the government to ensure sugar is provided at the official rate.
