Punjab Extends Section 144 on Wheat Use in Feed Mills

The Punjab government has announced an extension of the enforcement of Section 144, which prohibits the use of wheat in poultry feed across the province. This regulatory measure, initially implemented to safeguard the availability of essential food commodities, the ban has now been extended for another 30 days.

According to a spokesperson from the Home Department, the extension is aimed at ensuring the uninterrupted supply of wheat, flour, and bread to the general public. With wheat being a staple food commodity, the government has emphasized the importance of prioritizing its use for human consumption over industrial or livestock purposes.

The Secretary for Price Control highlighted that feed mills in Punjab currently hold over 100,000 metric tons of wheat stock, which was originally intended for use in poultry feed. The extension of the restriction is designed to prevent the diversion of this food-grade wheat, thereby protecting both its supply and affordability in the open market.
