Punjab Produces Nearly 2 Million Tons of Sugar

The Punjab Sugar Mills Association has released updated production data up to January 14, 2026, showing strong growth in sugarcane crushing, sugar output, and recovery rates during the 2025–26 crushing season.

Punjab Sugar Production Highlights (Up to Jan 14, 2026)

  • Sugarcane crushed: 21.53 million metric tons
  • Sugar produced: 1.996 million metric tons
    • Up 12.89% year-on-year (vs. 1.768 million tons last year)
  • Average recovery: 9.57%
    • Improved from 9.11% last season

Including carryover stocks of 112,116 metric tons, Punjab’s total available sugar stands at 2.108 million metric tons.

Sales and Stock Position in Punjab

  • Sugar sold: 904,703 metric tons
  • Balance stock: 1.204 million metric tons
  • Sales ratio: 42.91%
    • Up from 37.50% last year (+5.41%)

Despite higher production, total sugar stocks remain 18.81% lower year-on-year, reflecting faster sales and relatively tighter inventories.

Top Sugar-Producing Divisions in Punjab

  1. Bahawalpur Division – 691,862 metric tons (Rank #1)
  2. Faisalabad Division – 553,145 metric tons (Rank #2)
  3. DG Khan Division – 341,696 metric tons (Rank #3)

Bahawalpur Division

  • Cane crushed: 7.293 million metric tons (7 mills)
  • Sugar produced: Over 691,000 metric tons
  • Recovery: 9.65%
  • Sugar sold: ~294,000 metric tons
  • Balance stock: Over 451,000 metric tons

Faisalabad Division

  • Cane crushed: Over 6.4 million metric tons
  • Sugar produced: 553,000+ metric tons
  • Sales ratio: ~60%, indicating stronger demand
  • Balance stock: ~227,000 metric tons

DG Khan Division

  • Cane crushed: Over 3.5 million metric tons
  • Sugar produced: 341,000+ metric tons
  • Recovery: ~9.98%
  • Sales remain slow, leaving sizable stocks available

Pakistan’s sugar industry currently remains production-strong, supported by higher cane crushing, improved recovery rates, and stable output growth. If the current pace continues, it should comfortably meet domestic sugar demand during the season.
