Wheat Sowing Advances in Sindh: Updated Pace and Seasonal Outlook

Wheat sowing in Sindh has gained momentum following the harvest of cotton and rice, particularly in upper Sindh regions such as Sukkur and Larkana, where approximately 17% of the sowing has been completed. The total wheat cultivation area in Sindh is expected to increase from 3.1 million acres to around 3.4 million acres, driven by the government’s financial support package for small farmers offering one bag of DAP and two bags of urea per acre, equivalent to PKR 24,000 per acre.

Wheat sowing in upper Sindh is expected to be completed by mid-November, with the major sowing activity occurring during the first 10 days of the November. In lower Sindh (including Hyderabad, Badin, and Thatta), sowing is likely to commence from mid-November onward.

Current soil moisture levels are favorable, with temperatures dropping to 32–34°C and adequate water availability all of which provide ideal conditions for wheat sowing.

Why Pakistan’s Rice Exports Are Falling While India Maintains Its Position

In November, Pakistan exported 406,843 metric tons of rice worth $171 million, showing a month-on-month increase compared to October, when exports stood at 360,474 metric tons. Despite this improvement, Pakistan’s overall rice exports remain significantly below last year’s levels. In comparison with its neighboring country India’s rice exports largely remained stable compared to the previous year. From April to November 2025, India earned approximately $7.3 billion from rice exports, almost unchanged from the same period last year. As the world’s largest rice exporter, India’s export performance has played a key role in shaping global rice stocks, alongside good harvests in other major producing countries that have kept global supply comfortable.
